A big THANK YOU to Lee Ann Smith, for her email about these pins:
"I actually know the story behind these balloon pins. I worked for E. F.
Hutton back in the early 80's. (I have a few of these pins myself.) The man
that had these made was the svp [Sales Vice President, I think] of the
central region, and was a big fan of Boynton. He had these made up for his
employees and clients. I used to administer the training programs for these
high level managers and in turn he sent me a handful of these pins."
These pins are approximately 1 inch tall; the small pins are slightly smaller,
around 3/4 inch tall. These pins abound with unique Sandra Boynton touches:
Some of the animals have a bird on their balloons, and the turkey is carrying
a square balloon that says "Unnamed Large Competitor". The other balloons all
say "EFHutton" - except for the sheep's balloon, which says "EFMutton" and the
rhinos' balloons, which say "EFGlutton". Bull 2's balloon has something on it
that I can't quite make out; it doesn't look like a bird, maybe it's a flower,
or maybe it's popped. The type on the dragon's balloons is Old English. The
bird on the giraffe pin is being carried aloft by a balloon caught on its foot;
the bird on the small rabbit's balloon is an owl.
